Fencing, in Genoa the sabre and the epee take to the stage

Fifth day of competitions in Genoa for the 2025 European Championships, the second team event after the Italian success in women's foil and silver in men's sabre. On the platform in the Ligurian capital are the men's épée and women's sabre.

The Italian quartet of fencers, composed of individual silver medalist Matteo Galassi, bronze medalist Andrea Santarelli, Davide Di Veroli and Gianpaolo Buzzacchino, was defeated in the semi-final by France 45-33 and will now play for the bronze medal against Germany, which was also defeated in the other semi-final by Holland.

Same outcome for the women's sabre fencers, competing with Michela Battiston, Chiara Mormile, Manuela Spica and Mariella Viale, who also lost in the semi-final against France by 45-37. The women's sabre fencers will play for the bronze in the final against Hungary, which was also beaten in the semi-final by Poland.
