Mosquitoes are attacking. How to discourage them?

It's hard to imagine summer without the company of a mini-vampire - a mosquito. It buzzes and bites, and in the morning we wake up sleepless, angry and scratching at the blisters. Is there any way to discourage this annoying creature from visiting our bedrooms? Mosquitoes are attracted by the smell of human body and there are methods by which a person becomes "invisible" to them. Of course, chemical ones. But there are also natural methods.

If you prefer natural remedies, you can try the old, "grandmother's" methods - mint, eucalyptus or clove oils. A proven method for dealing with a bloodsucker is garlic or onion. Just cut it into slices and place it on the windowsill. However, you have to take into account that the intense smell will spread throughout the apartment. It will scare away mosquitoes - that's a fact. But some people also don't tolerate it.

Tomato leaves are also effective against this little rascal. You can also put a bouquet of them on yourself. Some people claim that it works, but we can't guarantee it, because we haven't checked it at the editorial office.

The best thing would be to keep mosquitoes out of your apartment, so maybe planting some specific plants on your balcony would be enough? Mint, geranium, catnip are also good options here. And, of course, the mosquito plant, or plectranthus. The latter plant has its advantages. Mosquitoes don't like its intense, camphor-like smell. The plant will grow nicely in a pot as well as in boxes. It has long, up to 1.5 m, shoots and pretty green or green-white leaves.

Spiders are also quite effective in fighting mosquitoes, but there are people who are more afraid of them than mosquitoes. But it's worth a try. We don't have to start a whole spider farm. Just 1-2 individuals, carefully guarded so that they don't allow themselves to get too carried away, are enough.
