Death of Polish Olympian. The world of sports in mourning

This is a big blow to the sports community in Poland, especially those directly related to swimming. Leszek Górski came from Olsztyn.

"It is with deep regret that we inform you that on May 21, 2025, Leszek Górski (1961-2025) passed away - an outstanding Polish swimmer, Olympian and coach. He was one of the most outstanding figures of Polish swimming in the 1970s and 1980s, a European Championship medalist and Olympic finalist, who throughout his years of sports career and coaching work significantly contributed to the development of this discipline in Poland," we read in a special post by the Polish Swimming Association on social media.

Leszek Górski, as we read, has gathered an impressive collection of over 100 Polish Championship medals in his career and won the title of Polish Champion 13 times.

He set a total of 32 Polish records. He also made history as a finalist at the 1980 Olympic Games in Moscow (7th place in the 400 m medley) and vice-champion of Europe in 1981 in the same distance (Split 1981). He also represented Europe in the 1979 World Cup, taking 2nd place in the 400 m medley.

Górski ended his sports career in 1988. As the Polish Swimming Association recalls, after parting ways with the role of a competitor, Górski began to pass on his knowledge through his roles as a swimming teacher and then as a coach.
