Wilfredo Leon took home the full prize pool! A unique gala for Polish volleyball

The professionalization of club volleyball that took place in Poland almost exactly two and a half decades ago is certainly an example that can be shown not only in the country but also abroad. The Polish Volleyball League has become an exceptional product, in the positive sense of the word.

Wilfredo Leon and Agnieszka Korneluk the best in the 2024/25 season!

On Tuesday evening (May 20), a special PLS gala took place. In addition to closing the 2024/25 season, the Polish Volleyball League is also celebrating its 25th anniversary.

- Our big birthday will come in a little over a month, because the Polish Volleyball League was established on June 30, 2000. At that time, in Poznań, we signed a notarial deed that established a professional volleyball league in our country. A few months later, the first match of the professional competition was played. I saw some of the sports participants of that debut today at the gala. In the first match of the professional league, the Fornal you know so well performed, except Marek, because Tomasz had only just turned three. Wilfredo Leon was only 7 years old at the time and no one expected that twenty-something years later he would become the Olympic vice-champion in the White and Red colors. And he will decorate the PlusLiga season that has just ended with a gold medal at the Polish Championships - admitted on the occasion of the anniversary the president of PLS ​​Artur Popko.

The gala, which gathered nearly a thousand people in total, took place in the ATM studios in Warsaw. The biggest winners? Each award was important, it is hard to compare them. However, the winners certainly deserve a distinction, looking at this last season. That is, the middle blocker Agnieszka Korneluk (DevelopRes Rzeszów) and the receiver Wilfredo Leon (Bogdanka LUK Lublin) . However, looking more broadly, at the entire 25 years of PLS, here is a triumph - on the women's side of Agnieszka Bednarek - and on the men's side of Mariusz Wlazły. All that remains is to wish Polish volleyball another 25 years of at least equal success.
