Pole casts spell at Wimbledon! He threw out a former finalist of the event

There is no hiding the fact that Kamil Majchrzak has had mostly uphill battles in his career when it comes to Grand Slam tournaments.
Suffice it to say that on Monday afternoon, late in the day, the Pole first won his first set in a Grand Slam match after almost three years of waiting. And then, as was to be expected, Majchrzak claimed a valuable victory in a Grand Slam – for the first time since the 2022 Australian Open.
The only Polish singles player in this year's tournament in London (Hubert Hurkacz withdrew due to injury) left Matteo Berrettini in the defeated field. The Italian, who was seeded number 32 at Wimbledon, the last possible among the distinguished tennis players. What's more, Berrettini is the finalist of this event in 2021. The Italian was in the form of his life at the time, and in the fight for the final (ultimately lost to Novak Djokovic), the Italian tennis player beat... Hurkacz.
We can therefore write about a successful revenge for that meeting in the performance of Majchrzak, who is much less known than the Wrocław player, but is very ambitious and hard-working.
Wimbledon: Kamil Majchrzak wins! Pole with historic winInterestingly, the Pole came to London with this year's grass court record... 0 wins and 7 losses. One could therefore seriously wonder whether the Pole would have any chance against such an experienced Italian tennis player.
Without taking away from Majchrzak's success, it must also be clearly stated that Berrettini probably needs to look at his career from a slightly longer perspective. Injuries are injuries, and these have plagued the Italian the most in recent years. However, this does not change the fact that when he stepped onto the court, from the end of the fourth set, he was unsteady on his feet, not being prepared for such a hot, five-set battle. And in a Grand Slam, you can't reach for something big like that.
Majchrzak looked completely different against the Italian. Ultimately, the Pole won 4:6, 6:2, 6:4, 5:7, 6:3. There were many important moments in this match. It seems that the key was the Pole pulling the third set from 2:4 to 6:4. In the fourth set, Majchrzak equalized at 5:5, breaking the Italian, but Berrettini was able to break away and extend the clash by one more set. The Pole opened this one very well, breaking it quickly and then consistently reaching the finish with a smile on his face.
In the second round, Majchrzak will face Ethan Quinn, an American ranked 89th. The match will be played next Wednesday (July 2).
