On the sidelines of the event's presentation, on Monday, António Manso, president of Andebol Clube de Lamego, was “expectant”, highlighting that “more than a thousand people will be involved, including athletes, referees and volunteers”.
“We hope that everything goes well and that it is a success”, he stated, confessing that the sport, in Lamego, “is doing well and is recommended”. “We have the senior team in the second national division , the under-18s in the first division and the remaining age groups (10) are in the regional divisions. In total, we have 145 athletes”, highlights António Manso.
Henrique Conceição, president of the Viseu Handball Association, highlighted “the handball festival” that will take place in Lamego, in a meeting that “involves many people, who come from various parts of the country, including islands”.
When asked about the evolution of the sport in the district of Viseu, where Lamego is located, Henrique Conceição says that “more and more people are practicing”, setting the development of women's handball as the goal of his term, which began in October.
Joaquim Escada, vice-president of the Portuguese Handball Federation, was also present at the presentation of the initiative. “The sport is growing and this can be seen in meetings like this, with many participants”, he highlighted, also showing himself to be “very confident” about the 2025 edition of this national meeting, which “will certainly remain in everyone’s memory”.
The National Handball Meeting for Minis and Bambis will take place between 3 and 6 July in Lamego, with the local authority as the main partner. Catarina Ribeiro, vice-president of the city council, believes that the event “will shake up the city”, highlighting that “accommodation is practically sold out and restaurants already have many reservations”.
