Arouca plays Sporting on the 17th

Arouca plays Sporting on the 17th

Two-time champions Sporting will host Arouca on August 17, in the first home game in the 2025/26 edition of the I Liga, on the second round, which will mark Benfica's debut, the Portuguese Professional Football League (LPFP) announced today.

The match is scheduled for Sunday, the 17th, at 8:30 pm, at the José Alvalade Stadium, in Lisbon, which has been undergoing renovation work since the end of last season, in which the 'lions' retained the title for the first time in 71 years and won the Portuguese Cup, winning both trophies simultaneously after 23 years on the way to their seventh 'double'.

On Saturday, one day before Sporting's first home match, national runner-up Benfica will visit Estrela da Amadora at 8:30 pm at the José Gomes Stadium, making their debut in the competition, having postponed their opening-round home match against Rio Ave until September 23, due to their presence in the preliminary stages of access to the Champions League league stage.

The schedule for this duel is still subject to change, a scenario that can be extended to the match between Alverca and Sporting de Braga, scheduled for Sunday at 6 pm, due to the participation of the Minho team in the qualifying rounds of the Europa League.

The second round will start on Friday, the national holiday of Our Lady of the Assumption, at 3:30 pm, with AVS hosting Casa Pia, in Vila das Aves, and will end on Monday, with FC Porto visiting Gil Vicente, at 8:15 pm, in Barcelos.

The 92nd edition of the I Liga kicks off today, at 8:15 pm, with the match between Casa Pia and Sporting, at the Estádio Municipal de Rio Maior, refereed by Gustavo Correia, from the Porto association.
