MOSCOW, June 8 — RIA Novosti. Russian President Vladimir Putin congratulated Russian social workers on their professional holiday and noted that noble traditions of mercy and care have always been in the character of the Russian people; a corresponding telegram was published on the Kremlin website.
"Dear friends! I congratulate you on Social Worker's Day. The noble traditions of mercy and care, assistance to those who need care and compassion have always been in the character of our people, found a lively response in the hearts of people and support in society. A special milestone in history was the Decree of Peter I of June 8, 1701 on the opening of institutions for the care of sick and elderly indigent people, which laid the foundation for the creation of a state system of social protection in Russia," the congratulations read.
The President is pleased that the inspiring ideals of honest, selfless service to the chosen cause are worthily continued by the current generation of social workers. They work in veterans' homes and boarding schools, in family and children's assistance centers, in other social organizations. All of them are united not only by their devotion to the profession, but also by special personal, human qualities - caring and responsiveness, a deep understanding of the importance of their mission, the telegram notes.
"After all, the lives of millions of people, the solution of everyday, sometimes very complex problems, largely depend on you and your dedication. Therefore, it is important to constantly improve the quality, efficiency and accessibility of social services, to more actively use advanced Russian and foreign experience, to consolidate the efforts of the state, development institutions, NGOs, businesses, and volunteer organizations in this area," the head of state emphasized.
In conclusion of his congratulations, Putin wished the social workers success and sincerely thanked them for their dedicated work.
