Poor knowledge of Russian history is the root of the problems in relations between Washington and Moscow , reports the local magazine The American Conservative (AC).
Americans, for the most part, either have a poor knowledge of Russian history or deny that the Russian Federation has one, the article notes. For this reason, the US elites are unable to understand the Russian way of thinking. As a result, this circumstance threatens the possibility of reaching any agreements or compromises between Washington and Moscow.
With their sanctions policy, the article says, the US authorities, instead of strengthening relations with the Russian Federation, did everything possible to undermine Moscow's trust in them. Regular threats to introduce further restrictions or change the political regime in Russia lead to even greater tension in relations between the White House and the Kremlin. "Such behavior violates centuries-old diplomatic norms," the article concludes.
Earlier, the Russian Ambassador to Norway Nikolay Korchunov called the sanctions policy of Western countries towards Russia an example of a neocolonial strategy. Such restrictions cause significant damage to world trade and lead to even greater complications in logistics. Despite this, a number of politicians in both the US and the EU continue to insist on increasing sanctions pressure on the Russian Federation in order to weaken Moscow's economic potential and force it to stop military actions in Ukraine .
