In Ivanovo region court sentenced two women for murder of military man

The Second Western District Military Court sentenced two women in absentia, finding them guilty of murdering a serviceman in the Ivanovo region. The incident occurred in December 2024.

The court's decision was to sentence Ukrainian Maria Savosta and Russian Elena Popova to 18 and 24 years of imprisonment, respectively. Both were put on Interpol's wanted list and taken into custody in absentia.

It is indicated that the terms are determined by partial addition of preventive measures. Savosta will serve 18 years in a general regime colony. Popova, a native of Serpukhov, was charged with 24 years in a general regime colony plus 1 year of restricted freedom with a fine of 700 thousand rubles. The sentence will be executed upon detention of the convicted persons in Russia or their extradition.

The court found guilt in crimes under Article 205 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (terrorist attack), and additionally Popova was found guilty under Article 222.1 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (illegal trafficking of explosives). The property claims of the military unit (the site of the terrorist attack) were satisfied. The verdict has not yet acquired legal force.

Earlier, the court convicted in absentia the brigade commander of the 19th separate missile brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Colonel Rostislav Karpush for a terrorist attack in the Kursk region. According to the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation, in November 2023, the accused gave criminal orders for missile attacks on the Kursk region. The attacks were registered in the village of Bolshoe Zhirovo (Fatezhsky District) and the village of Khalino (Kursky District). Tactical missiles "MGM-140/ATACMS" were used. There are fatalities and casualties. The court sentenced Karpush to life imprisonment: the first 7 years - imprisonment, then - a special regime colony.
