Car owners who have left their cars at a service center should ignore calls demanding payment for parts, Deputy Chairman of the Council for the Development of the Digital Economy under the Federation Council Artem Sheikin told TASS.
The senator described the scheme: fraudsters, having gained access to customer data, call the service on behalf of the car owners, find out the necessary spare parts and their cost. Then, introducing themselves as service employees, they demand from customers "urgent payment" for the parts needed for repairs.
Sheikin urged never to pay for parts after such calls, even if the interlocutor is convincing. Payment should be official, and not by card, dictated in a hurry, which is called over the phone. He also urged customers of car services to be vigilant.
According to him, payment for parts and work must be made exclusively through the service's cash desk, official website or application, and also through a legal entity's account with the necessary details.
No transfers "to the master's card" or "by phone number" can be made, he said. Sheikin also called for requesting an invoice, act or SMS from the service before payment. According to him, this is not a formality, but a way to protect yourself. When calling "from the service" with a request to transfer money, he called for not rushing, hanging up and calling the service back.
