The Turkish Grand National Assembly will discuss the Highway Traffic Law.

This week's General Assembly and committee meetings in the Turkish Grand National Assembly will begin on Tuesday. The General Assembly will begin discussions on the "Proposed Law Amending the Highway Traffic Law," which includes regulations to increase traffic fines. According to the proposal, drivers who modify their vehicle's sound system in a way that causes disturbance to bystanders will be fined 16,000 lira. Drivers who violate red lights and cause traffic accidents will have their licenses revoked for 60 days. At the end of the revocation period, the licenses will be reinstated, provided the driver undergoes a psychotechnical evaluation and is found to have no underlying condition preventing them from obtaining a license.
Penalties will be increasedDrivers who persistently follow another vehicle with the intent to attack in traffic or who get off the vehicle for this purpose will be fined 180,000 Turkish Lira, their licenses will be revoked for 60 days, and the vehicles may be banned from traffic for 30 days. Drivers who use cell or car phones while driving will be fined 5,000 Turkish Lira. Drivers of motor vehicles racing will be fined 46,000 Turkish Lira, and their licenses will be revoked for 2 years. In traffic accidents involving death or injury, drivers who leave the scene except for necessity, without the permission of the municipal police, will be sentenced to 1 to 3 years in prison. Drivers who fail to yield the right of way to vehicles that have the right of way will be fined 15,000 Turkish Lira. Drivers who fail to make room for vehicles carrying injured or urgently ill patients or for vehicles fighting fires and forest fires, and who fail to stop when necessary, will be fined 46,000 Turkish Lira, and their driver's licenses will be revoked for 30 days.
The Human Rights Inquiry Commission's Prevention of Discrimination Subcommittee will convene on Tuesday to hear about the Council of Higher Education's (YÖK) activities to prevent discrimination against higher education students. In addition to the General Assembly and committee proceedings, political party group meetings in Parliament will be held on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
