The Comuns agree with the PSC to increase the number of hours a week in schools.

The Comuns agree with the PSC to increase the number of hours a week in schools.

As part of the negotiations for the approval of the third supplementary credit, which should allow Salvador Illa's government to at least partially resolve the financial difficulties resulting from the inability to approve a budget for this year, the Comuns (Comuns) have agreed with the PSC (Spanish Socialist Workers' Party) to increase the allocations for education.

Specifically, according to the agreement announced today by parliamentary group spokesperson David Cid, the Ministry of Education will allocate 37 million euros to programs to strengthen students' skills in Catalan, mathematics, and English.

The latest PISA assessments have highlighted deficiencies in these three subjects, which the regional ministry will now reinforce with two more hours of teaching per week.

Within this same framework, the Comuns have also agreed to strengthen the school cafeteria service, essential to ensuring adequate nutrition for children from poorer families. The goal is to allocate five million euros this school year and reach an additional fifteen million euros next year.

This measure follows the agreement announced this weekend, under which the Department of Social Rights will increase its funding for the creation of residential places for the elderly and disabled in Catalonia, increasing the number of available places to 3,500. This agreement also commits Salvador Illa's government to redouble its financial efforts to provide housing for families in emergency situations.

This third supplementary credit should be approved this Wednesday in Parliament with the support of the ERC and Comuns.
