Stargard does not want a center for illegal immigrants

The City Council in Stargard has taken a position on the possible establishment of a center for illegal immigrants in the city. The majority of councilors are in favor of not establishing such a center in Stargard.
Iwona Wawruszczak, the representative of the Stop Illegal Immigration committee, tried several times to introduce a citizens' project on this matter to the council forum. It failed because it did not meet the formal requirements. At the session on June 24, it passed by a majority vote.
– We tried and tried, until finally our project was accepted by the legal office – comments Iwona Wawruszczak. – This resolution is an expression of concern for our safety, we know what it is like abroad. We are concerned about those who cross our border illegally.
The City Council in Stargard, in accordance with its adopted position, is concerned about information about the growing threat from mass, uncontrolled immigration, the intensification of which may destabilize the situation in our country.
- Due to the safety of the city's residents, in the face of the government's immigration strategy and the concept of building Foreigner Integration Centers throughout Poland, the City Council in Stargard expresses its strong opposition to the potential intention to create any centers in the city for immigrants illegally crossing the state border and then applying for asylum - we read in the adopted draft resolution. - A large group of people with a foreign culture and religion would be very noticeable in the environment and would determine the safety and comfort of the residents' lives.
The Council also expressed its opposition to the possible participation of the commune’s executive body with the central authorities in the creation of a housing base for immigrants in the city of Stargard or in making the material and human resources of the local government unit available for the above-mentioned purposes.
– I have great respect for you, words of appreciation for undertaking this, thank you – said councilor Zdzisław Wilk from the Law and Justice Councilors’ Club.
The majority of councilors were in favor of adopting the position. Dawid Pycz, Ewa Krawczyk, Monika Kirschenstein and Paweł Mazulewicz were against. Monika Garstka abstained from voting. ©℗
