Chotyniec in the Radymno commune has long been of interest to archaeologists from the University of Rzeszów, due to the Scythian stronghold, which has become a real archaeological sensation. Due to the excavations conducted, the Rzeszów University Field Research Station is located in Chotyniec. Some time ago, the commune decided to make the building of the former primary school located in the village available to researchers of the past.
Another joint initiative of scientists and local government was the Chotyniec Science Picnic for schools, which took place on June 11. There were plenty of attractions, and people willing to take advantage of them. Among other things, proposals referring to the world of modernity were prepared, such as F-35 flight simulators, glider flight simulators, a virtual reality zone and surprises from the area of physics. Students could explore the construction of an architectural arch and the phenomenon of reversed vision, as well as the principles of operation of Leonardo's bridge.
In the zone dedicated to issues of the past, participants could take a closer look at the clothing and equipment of Greek hoplites thanks to reenactors from the Hellas et Roma group, try clay modeling by taking part in ceramic workshops, and shoot a traditional bow. In the archaeological excavations arranged for the needs of the picnic, it was possible to test oneself in field archaeology.
The event was attended by: His Magnificence the Rector of the University of Rzeszów, Prof. Dr. Hab. n. med. Adam Reich, Vice-Marshal of the Podkarpackie Voivodeship Piotr Pilch, as well as Prof. Dr. Hab. Sylwester Czopek, Dr. Hab. Katarzyna Trybała-Zawiślak, Prof. UR, employees and students of the Institute of Archaeology of the URz, authorities and representatives of the Radymno commune and, of course, school youth.
