They are like wine… Oldboys Czuwaj Przemyśl are vice-champions of Poland

As we have already mentioned, the competition took place in four sports halls: the Medical University, the University of Life Sciences, the Catholic University of Lublin and the XXX Jan Twardowski General Secondary School in several age categories - from 35 plus to 55 plus, both in the women's and men's categories. A great many former famous women's and men's football players appeared on the court.
The Czuwaj Oldboys team competed in the over 55s category and repeated last year's success - they became silver medalists of the Polish Championships! Four teams competed in the final competition. In addition to Przemyśl, there were also: WKPR Masters Warsaw, Lwy Jasia Łaziska Górne and Oldboys Górnik Złotoryja. Czuwaj Oldboys beat the latter 14:8 to start with. In the second match, they had to admit the superiority of Lwy Jasia, losing 8:10, and finally in the final competition they crushed WKPR Masters 12:2. Antoni Kulik was recognized as the best goalkeeper of the tournament. The other two individual awards were taken by handball players from Łaziska Górne. MVP (most valuable player) was Jan Olszówka, and the top scorer was Artur Rykaczewski.
Przemyśl's line-up included: Antoni Kulik, Dariusz Kowalski (goalkeepers), Tadeusz Konieczny, Artur Dudek, Grzegorz Kamiński, Joachim Wacławczyk, Stanisław Orłów, Krzysztof Cichoński, Marek Cichoński, Marek Kalinowski, Piotr Zapiór, Donat Czujkowski, Zdzisław Dzimira, Wiesław Wanat and Andrzej Batko. The team's coach is Kazimierz Wiśniowski.
- This is our next championship with a medal. We are very happy. We played two very good matches. However, we lost to a team that has not beaten us recently. But that is sport. We clearly defeated last year's champion, which allowed us to take second place. We would like to thank our sponsors and the management of Primary School No. 14 in Przemyśl for providing the hall for training. We dedicate the medal to our deceased coach Wacław Książek, who started it all.
– said K. Wiśniowski.
They don't leave the podiumCzuwaj Oldboys have played in the Polish Masters Handball Championship 13 times so far, of course in different age categories. They have stood on the podium 10 times. They have won two Polish championship titles. To say that they are still like wine is like saying nothing…
Last year they also won the Polish vice-championship, and two years ago they were champions, of course in the over-55 category. They won the gold medals in Bartoszyce. Then – after 11 years – the legends of Przemyśl handball returned to the throne. In the first Polish Masters Championship in 2012, held in Krakow, Czuwaj Oldboys took 1st place in the over-45 category. It was a huge success, great satisfaction. In their age category, Przemyśl competed with two teams at that time – WKPR Masters Warsaw and Lwy Jasia Łaziska Górne. Each team played two matches. Czuwaj Oldboys lost only one, to Lwy Jasia 5:12. He won the remaining matches, winning against WKPR Masters 7:5 and 2:1 in a penalty shootout (the result was a 6:6 draw in regular time) and against Lwy Jasia 8:5, who took 2nd place in the event.
Last year, 36 teams competed in the championship, and the competition took place at four sports facilities in Turawa, Komprachcice, Dąbrowa and Dobrzeń Wielki. The teams competing in the men's over 55 category played their matches in the latter, located a dozen or so kilometres from Opole. The Przemyśl Masters had four rivals. The teams played in a round robin system. Czuwaj Oldboys won twice. They defeated Lwy Jasia Łaziska Górne 12:10 and Oldboys Górnik Złotoryja 10:8. Their only defeat (9:13) came against the eventual Polish champions – WKPR Masters Warsaw.
Congratulations!
