The agreement on the establishment of the clinics was signed on Wednesday by the Rector of the Catholic University of Lublin , Rev. Professor Mirosław Kalinowski, Piotr Matej, director of both hospitals in Lublin - the Cardinal Stefan Wyszyński Provincial Specialist Hospital and the St. John of Dukla Lublin Region Oncology Center, and Jarosław Stawiarski, Marshal of the Lublin Voivodeship.
The Provincial Specialist Hospital will have five clinics: general surgery, neurosurgery, cardiosurgery, geriatrics, and nephrology. The Lublin Region Oncology Center will have seven : hematology, oncology, radiotherapy, gynecologic oncology, anesthesiology and intensive care, otolaryngology, and surgical oncology. These will be typical hospital departments, but will be part of the Catholic University of Lublin. In addition to treating patients, they will also conduct practical classes with students and conduct research.
"These clinics will be established over a period of approximately two years, in line with the needs of the studies. We will also open additional clinics when the time and need arises," said Rev. Prof. Kalinowski.
The Rector of the Catholic University of Lublin emphasized that establishing clinics not only enables practical training for students but also the development of scientific and research activities by academic staff. "A clinic can be established when it is headed by an employee with at least a doctorate in medical sciences, health sciences, or pharmaceutical sciences. For the hospital, this means raising the level of its academic staff, among other things ," the Rector noted.
Piotr Matej, director of both hospitals, assured them that they are prepared and have the appropriate infrastructure and medical equipment to open clinics. " This also creates opportunities for the staff employed in these departments, which will become clinics in the future, to develop , which will translate into improved patient care in both facilities," Matej said.
New challenges for hospitals in the regionLublin Voivodeship Marshal Jarosław Stawiarski emphasized that the Catholic University of Lublin's collaboration with hospitals serves not only the development of one of the youngest medical programs at universities in Poland. "It also presents new challenges for our hospitals. We want to help educate future medical staff, future doctors, of whom there are currently far too few in the country," he said.
There are currently 180 students studying medicine at the Catholic University of Lublin, in three years, of whom 80 started their studies in the first year.
So far, the Catholic University of Lublin has opened a cardiology clinic at the Military Clinical Hospital with Polyclinic in Lublin, and will open a rehabilitation clinic there in the new year. The university has also signed cooperation agreements with other hospitals, including the Gemelli Polyclinic in Rome and the hospital in Radzyń Podlaski.
The Rector of the Catholic University of Lublin announced that further agreements will be signed. He believes this dispersed collaboration and contact with various treatment centers provides opportunities to develop diverse skills and competencies. "An agreement will soon be signed regarding emergency medical services at the facility in Radzyń Podlaski. Next year, 10 students will complete summer internships at the Gemelli Clinic, and I believe this isn't the end, as we are also committed to collaborating with other foreign centers," added Father Kalinowski.
