The results of the first stage of recruitment for specializations are in. Family physicians are the most popular candidates.

This year's fall recruitment for specialization training saw 7,995 participants, and the vast majority qualified for the designated courses . Doctors and dentists have until Monday , November 10th , to confirm their acceptance; results will be published on November 12th.

Failure to confirm the proposed option is considered a vacancy of the assigned specialization slot, but this does not necessarily mean that the training will be cancelled. Physicians who do not confirm acceptance of the proposed specialization training and those who do not qualify in the first stage will be considered for the second stage of the procedure.

The 3 most frequently chosen specializations

In their applications, candidates selected the field of training, its mode (residential or non-residential) and 3 units of training – in preferred order.

According to the Center for Postgraduate Medical Education, three specializations were most popular among candidates for residency training this fall:

1. Family Medicine – 469 applications with first choice
2. Anesthesiology and Intensive Care – 396 applications with first choice
3. Psychiatry – 372 applications with first choice

These are the fields that were most popular based on the number of residency applications submitted, taking into account the specialization given in the first choice.

286 people selected pediatrics as their first choice, 255 – internal medicine, 235 – neurosurgery .

Clinical oncology was the least frequently chosen field of study, with only 70 doctors expressing a strong desire to specialize in it.

A third stage of the proceedings cannot be ruled out

Within 5 days of the date of announcement of the final lists of doctors qualified and not qualified to undergo specialization training, the Ministry of Health will inform about whether or not an additional stage of the qualification procedure has been conducted.

An additional, third stage of recruitment may be organized if residency positions remain in priority medical fields after the second stage . Candidates who:

• were not qualified in earlier stages of the procedure,
• they indicated at least one option including residency mode and a priority field of medicine and were not qualified for this option at earlier stages of the procedure.
