Dramatic scenes at Wimbledon. Match suddenly interrupted

It must be admitted that the match itself was tense from the very start, which is quite surprising considering the moment in both men's careers. Carlos Alcaraz was the clear favorite. The Spaniard, seeded number 2, is the defending champion.
It turned out, however, that the 38-year-old Fabio Fognini, who is ending his career after the current season, intended to say goodbye to Wimbledon with his head held high. And it must be admitted that the Italian succeeded – to show great tennis – at a truly top level.
The first day of the main draw, however, fell on one of the hottest days in London in recent memory. Plus, wait, the hottest in... Wimbledon history!
The high temperature unfortunately caused an incident in the stands. One of the elderly people sitting in the stands – according to reports from people who were there – unfortunately fainted.
The incident occurred with the score 3-0 for the Spaniard, in the fifth set of a thriller that lasted over four hours. Alcaraz, seeing the worrying situation, decided to help in any way he could, passing a chilled drink to the stands.
The medical services intervened in the stands of the centre court for about 15 minutes. Eventually, the players managed to return to the game. Alcaraz won the match, winning the last set decisively 6:1. Fognini, however, received a standing ovation for his performance from the fans gathered on the centre court in London.
The main draw of Wimbledon 2025 started on June 30 (Monday ). The women's final on July 12 (Saturday), and the men's one day later (Sunday). The prize pool in this year's edition of the tournament is 53.5 million pounds (approx. PLN 267.6 million). The Czech Barbora Krejcikova and the aforementioned Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz are defending the singles title.
