Modern Pentathlon World Cup: Karbownik fourth in the final in Alexandria

Second was the representative of South Korea, Seungmin Seong, with 1443 points, and third was the representative of Hungary, Blanka Guzi, with 1440 points.

The fourth place in the World Cup final is the best result achieved by a Polish woman since 2014, when Oktawia Nowacka won the final competition in Sarasota, USA, and earlier she also triumphed in Kecskemet, Hungary.

Nowacka, later a bronze medalist at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro (2016), was 23 years old at the time, Karbownik is currently 20.

The 14th seeded Pole did very well on the fencing board. In the cup competition, she found herself in the semi-finals together with Italians Aurora Tognetti and Alice Rinaudo and Korean Seong. Ultimately, it was Rinaudo who proved better in a direct duel with the Pole. Małgorzata Karbownik took fourth place in the tournament with a score of 236 points, advancing by 10 positions.

The Pole's third time on the obstacle course gave her third place in the classification after two events. Only Khalil and Tognetti were ahead of Karbownik. In swimming she achieved eighth result and was still third.

In the last competition — laser run on the last 600-meter loop, Karbownik ran third, followed by Guzi. However, the Hungarian overtook the Pole and won the bronze medal. Karbownik finished 8 seconds behind her.

In the men's competition, the winner was the Egyptian Moutaz Mohamed, there were no Poles in the final "18". (PAP)
