On May 6, the Khabarovsk Regional Court will begin considering complaints against the decision to collect 8.5 billion rubles from former Khabarovsk Krai Governor Sergei Furgal and companies associated with him.
As RIA Novosti reports, earlier the Industrial District Court of Khabarovsk satisfied the claim of the Prosecutor General's Office, finding that Furgal concealed income from commercial activities from 2008 to 2019 while holding government positions.
According to the case materials, the ex-governor controlled a number of companies through trusted persons, which allowed him to illegally receive profits without declaring them. The prosecutor's office emphasizes that such actions violate anti-corruption legislation and create an unacceptable connection between business and government.
Furgal, who was suspended from office in 2020 and later convicted in other criminal cases, continues to contest the financial claims. The lower court's ruling was one of the largest fines imposed on a regional official in Russia.
Earlier it was reported that the Supreme Court of Russia refused to mitigate the sentence of former Khabarovsk Krai Governor Sergei Furgal.
