A man hit his little finger on a chair and broke his neck; he was later diagnosed with cancer.

A 62-year-old British resident, Paul Engliss, has found himself in an unusual medical situation: a minor household injury led to the diagnosis of a serious cancer, reports kp.ru. The man had long suffered from constant back pain, attributing it to age-related changes, but everything changed after he hit his little toe with a chair leg.

The blow proved more serious—Paul was diagnosed with a fractured third cervical vertebra and temporary paralysis. The first paramedics to arrive didn't immediately recognize the severity of the injury: they performed a routine examination and advised him to see a primary care physician. As a result, he walked around with the fracture for several days before an MRI was performed. After a comprehensive examination, he was fitted with a neck brace and diagnosed with myeloma, a rare form of blood cancer that affects bone tissue. According to Engliss, this condition made his bones so brittle that even a minor blow caused a serious fracture.
